Another corpse discovered after heavy downpour in Osogbo

A yet-to-be-identified girl has reportedly lost her life during a flood that wreaked havoc on Tuesday evening in Osogbo metropolis.

According to an eyewitness, the deceased and some other people who were going on a motorcycle during the heavy downpour fell at different times into the water and slipped into the stream.

Two of the victims were rescued through efforts of concerned residents but luck was not on the side of the deceased who was said to be 19 years old.

Her lifeless body was said to have been recovered on Wednesday around 1:30 pm inside some bamboo trees where she was stocked.

It was also learnt that three motorcycles were also recovered and handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

Residents acknowledged the government’s intervention to control flooding last year, but wants the culvert to be expanded to allow free passage of water as well as to prevent overflow.

The State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola who visited the affected places assured residents of quick government intervention.

Oyetola, however, warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse particularly on the water channels in order to avoid the recurrence of the menace.

DAILY POST had reported that the heavy downpour which started around 8pm on Tuesday sacked some residents from their houses and destroyed some goods and properties worth millions of naira across the state capital.
