Dave Hester is a $4 million dollar reality television star and business owner from the United States. Dave Hester is best known as one of the stars of the A&E reality television series “Storage Wars” which debuted in 2010. He also runs the Rags to Riches Thrift Store and the Newport Consignment Gallery. As an auctioneer, Dave Hester has 25 years of experience.

Early Years

Dave Hester was born in Oceanside, California, on July 23, 1964, at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base. His father was of German and Irish ancestry, and his mother was born in Mexico. His father, whom Dave has referred to as a “hoarder,” (which makes sense), served in the military and was an avid train collector. Dave chose to pursue auctions with his father instead of attending college. Instead of simply collecting them, Dave set out to make money from his hobby. Dave has one brother, but the two are said to be at odds.

Dave started buying machinery and tools from area auctions when he was 14 years old and selling them to shops on the military base where he lived. He worked as a big catcher at storage units in the 1990s. In 1992, Dave obtained his auctioneer’s licence. Dave made a small fortune by selling his father’s massive train collection, which he used to fund his business. He opened Newport Consignment Gallery and Rags to Riches thrift store in Costa Mesa, California, a 10,000 square foot freeway frontage showroom with only 15 employees, where he sells and auctions all of his found treasures.

Storage Wars

Since 2010, he has starred alongside auctioneer Dan Dotson, as well as auction hunters Darrell Sheets, Barry Weiss, Jarrod Schulz, and Brandi Passante on the reality TV show “Storage Wars” The show got off to a slow start, with only a few episodes being shot. The show’s goal is to auction off the contents of a storage unit where the rent for the space has not been paid. When a storage locker’s rent is not paid for three months in California, the contents are auctioned off. The show follows professional buyers who buy items based on a five-minute inspection and a quick assessment. The objective is to make money on the merchandise.

After gaining traction, the show became the most watched A&E show in its second season. The show went on to film several more seasons, the 13th of which premiered in April 2021. Storage Wars: Texas, a Dallas-based spin-off of Storage Wars, has already begun filming.

Dave Hester, aka “The Mogul” is the owner of a thrift store in Costa Mesa with 15 employees and is the Storage Wars group’s second most well-funded member, as well as the show’s recurring antagonist.

Private Life

Hester and his wife Donna Hester have been married for many years. Dave Hester Jr., the couple’s son, occasionally appears on the show with his father. Despite his boisterous on-screen persona, Hester is very private about his personal life and is quite introverted.

Scandals and Controversies

Dave was convicted of DUI in 2005 and served community service at a Goodwill store. Dave is known for his competitive and boisterous personality, and during his time on “Storage Wars.” he has been involved in several fights and brawls. Dave filed a lawsuit against the network after being fired from the show in 2012. After the lawsuit was dismissed, he was asked to pay $122,000, but he refused. He returned to the show after the case was resolved. A brawl between Dave, Dan, Laura, and their fists was captured on camera in 2015.

Dave Hester was sued in April 2012 over his famous catchphrase “Yuuup.” Unfortunately, R&B star Trey Songz had recently been granted a trademark for the phrase. Trey Songz claims to have been saying “Yuuup” since at least 2009. The issue is that both Hester and Songz are profiting from clothing lines and merchandise by using the phrase.
