Guillermo del Toro Salary and Net Worth: Guillermo del Toro is a Mexican filmmaker and producer with a $30 million net worth. Del Toro is best known for directing a number of visually stunning fantasy films, including the Academy Award-winning “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “The Shape of Water.” Guillermo is equally at ease directing Hollywood blockbusters as he is directing indie films on a shoestring budget. Apart from directing, Guillermo is an accomplished special effects makeup artist, writer, and producer with a diverse resume.

He is also well-known for his novels, several of which have been adapted into comic book series. Del Toro has remained fascinated by fairy tales, monsters, horror, and religious imagery throughout his life. Numerous facets of these characteristics can be found in his various films. Guillermo is widely regarded as one of the world’s most powerful individuals, and he was honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2019.

Guillermo del Toro Gómez was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on October 9, 1964. Guillermo was born into a Spanish-speaking family and was raised in a strict Catholic household. Del Toro began experimenting with his father’s Super 8 camera at the age of eight, creating a number of short films. Del Toro attended the University of Guadalajara after graduating from secondary school.

Guillermo began his career by releasing a series of short films prior to directing his first feature. He also wrote and directed several episodes of the television series “La Hora Marcada” during these formative years. Guillermo then ventured into special effects, where he spent ten years as a makeup artist for special effects. He even founded Necropia, a special effects company.

“Mimic” was one of Guillermo’s first feature films. For the Mexican director, the experience was not pleasant. He was given a $30 million budget for the film’s production, and he later admitted that Miramax treated him poorly. This infuriated his friend James Cameron, who confronted Harvey Weinstein regarding Guillermo’s treatment at the 70th Academy Awards.

Del Toro truly blossomed in the early 2000s. “Blade II” was one of his first major Hollywood blockbusters, and he followed it up in 2004 with fan favorite “Hellboy.” He also released a critically acclaimed film titled “The Devil’s Backbone” during this time period. In 2006, “Pan’s Labyrinth” released a film that was similar to but distinct from “Pan’s Labyrinth.” The film earned three Academy Awards and helped establish Guillermo as a master director.

He was hired to direct “The Hobbit” in 2008, though Peter Jackson ultimately directed the films himself. Del Toro published his first novel, “The Strain,” in the late 2000s. Two additional books were published over the next few years, all of which were set in the post-apocalyptic vampire genre.

He gained notoriety in the 2010s for directing films such as “Pacific Rim,” which grossed $411 million at the box office. He directed the horror film “Crimson Peak” in 2015. Del Toro won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director for “The Shape of Water” in 2017 following the film’s premiere. Guillermo began producing “Trollhunters” on Netflix in the late 2010s, which quickly became one of the platform’s most popular children’s shows. Toward the decade’s end, he announced that he would be directing a dark stop-motion film titled “The Adventures of Pinocchio” that would apparently be a reimagining of Mussolini’s rise.

Guillermo del Toro was married to Lorenza Newton, his high school sweetheart, from 1986 to 2017. He reportedly paid her roughly half of his net worth, up to $30 million, in a divorce settlement. As a result, his net worth is relatively “low” in comparison to other successful directors. Del Toro and Newton have two daughters together.

Guillermo sold his Agoura Hills home for $2.1 million in 2018, according to reports. He originally purchased the residence in 2010 for $1.633 million and listed it for $2.195 million earlier this year before settling on a $2.1 million final selling price. This residence is 5,700 square feet in size and has five bedrooms. Additionally, a pool, a spa, a marble-lined fireplace, and a lounging patio are included.

Guillermo purchased THREE homes in Los Angeles over a 12-month period beginning in 2019. He spent $4.5 million on a Santa Monica home, $1.4 million on a modest mid-Los Angeles home, and around $900,000 on a West Hollywood condo. The most expensive home in Santa Monica is Gothic in style and features turrets reminiscent of castles. Additionally, the residence encompasses 5,600 square feet and includes a swimming pool.

Guillermo’s new home in mid-city Los Angeles features vine-covered walls, a grassy lawn, and a general cottage aesthetic. The third and cheapest home is a relatively simple bachelor pad with only one bedroom and 1,400 square feet of living space, but it should prove to be a sound investment in the long run. Del Toro is rumored to own two houses that are entirely dedicated to his collection of books, poster artwork, and other memorabilia related to his artistic endeavors.

Guillermo describes himself as being in “involuntary exile” from Mexico. This is because his father was abducted by criminals in 1997. Del Toro’s family was forced to pay a hefty ransom to reclaim Guillermo’s father, and the criminals continued to increase the ransom until it was double what they had initially requested. James Cameron personally contributed $1 million to Guillermo’s efforts to reclaim his father. His father was eventually released – though the criminals were never apprehended and the money was never returned. This prompted del Toro’s entire family to relocate to the United States from Mexico.
