Kim Fields, who was born in New York, New York, attended Burbank High School in California and Pepperdine University while taking a vacation from her acting career. She began her professional acting career on television in the late 1970s with the short-lived sitcom “Baby, I’m Back” and other guest-starring appearances on shows such as “Good Times” and “Mork & Mindy.” In 1979, she was cast as Tootie on “The Facts of Life,” the part that would make her a star.

She played the role until 1988 and later appeared as the same character on “Different Strokes” as a guest star. In the early to mid-1980s, she also appeared in a number of television movies. After taking time off to attend college, the 1990s were quite busy for her, as she appeared as a guest star on numerous shows, including “Martin,” “Roc,” “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “The Crew,” and “Kenan & Kel.”

She also starred for four years in the smash sitcom “Living Single.”
