Reactions trail postponment of Kaduna Local Government elections

Reactions have continued to trail the postponement of Kaduna Local Government elections by the State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD – SIECOM).

While some are saying that the All Progressive Congress (APC) led by Governor Nasir El-rufai is afraid of losing the Local Government election, others said that the ruling party intended to foot-drag the elections to allow the 23 local government appointed caretaker chairmen of the party in the 23 Local Government Area of the state to fully prepare their members for the forth coming Local Government elections.

Recall that the Kaduna State lndependent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) postponed the local government election for the third time to 4th September, 2021.

The election was due to take place on 14 August, 2021 before it was postponed which according to the Chairman, Dr Saratu Binta Dikko-Audu, was to allow necessary election activities to be completed to ensure a credible election.

A PDP member representing Kajuru Local Government Area in the State House of Assembly, Mallam Yunusa Abdullahi said, that the Governor El-rufai-led APC was afraid of losing the local government elections.

“We are not surprised by the new development of the APC-led administration of the state. Already, they have failed because they have nothing on ground to show. People in the rural areas know that this Government cannot help them. So, they will continue to postpone like this, but, by the grace of God, it will hold one day and we will know the truth.

According to him, ” the only record of achievements is banditry and poverty that they imposed on poor people in the state.”

Also, aspiring Councilor, in Kaduna South Local Government Area of the state under the PDP, said, ” all the delay was to allow the local government caretaker chairmen in the state to continue to persuade their subjects to vote for them which is no longer possible because they have nothing to show.”
