Riff Raff was born Horst Christian Simco on January 29, 1982 in Houston, Texas, where he attended Langham Creek High School and played basketball as a shooting guard before dropping out his senior year. He earned his GED and enrolled at Hibbing Community College in Hibbing, Minnesota, where he played basketball for the school.

He dropped out in 2003 and returned to Houston, where he got a job painting cars in the then-popular “candy-colored” style and gradually developed his new identity as Riff Raff. He rose to prominence in 2008, when he began releasing tracks and videos on MySpace and YouTube under the moniker “MTV Riff Raff,” combining performance art and slapstick comedy.

His viral videos earned him a spot on MTV’s reality show “From G’s to Gents.” His growing popularity on YouTube led to his signing with S.O.D. Money Gang, Inc. in 2011.
