Tom Skilling is an American meteorologist for television. Tom Skilling is the current weathercaster for WGN-TV and a member of the American Meteorological Society.

Early Life

Thomas Ethelbert Skilling III was born on February 20, 1952, and his full name is Thomas Ethelbert Skilling III. As of 2020, he will be 68 years old. He was born and raised in Aurora, Illinois. He is the eldest of the family’s four children. Jeff Skilling, one of his younger brothers, is the disgraced former CEO of Enron. However, he has not disclosed the identities of his parents.

Education and Career

Skilling was a student at West Aurora High School. During his senior year of high school, he began broadcasting for WKKD and WKKD-FM. Back when he was 14 years old, he convinced WKKD that he could reliably predict the Aurora weather. In the past, WKKD’s Chicago-based prediction was erroneous for Aurora. Following a few days of monitoring Skilling’s prediction, the corporation engaged him to present its own weather program. His show aired three times every week. Furthermore, he began working at WLXT-TV at the age of 18.

Skilling enrolled in the University of Wisconsin in Madison after graduating from high school. He studied meteorology and journalism at this school. While attending college, Skilling was employed at WKOW-TV and WTSO-radio. In 1975, Tom obtained his first television post in a big market when he was hired as the chief forecaster at WITI-TV in Milwaukee.

After roughly three years with WITI-TV, Skilling relocated to Chicago in 1978 to join WGN-TV. Since then, he has been employed by WGN-TV. Currently, he serves as the head meteorologist for television. Similarly, he also writes the daily Chicago Tribune weather piece.

Skilling is also a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. He is a member of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and hosts a tornado every year.

The comedy-drama film ‘The Weather Man’ was released in 2005. For the film set in his hometown of Chicago at a fictitious version of WGN-TV, he was contacted.

Tom has contributed to the profession of forecasting for about half a century by providing in-depth reports with remarkable accuracy. Thus, his work has been acknowledged and celebrated. Lewis University granted him an honorary doctorate in humanities in 1995. In addition, in 1999, the Catalina Sky Survey identified an asteroid called 91888 Tomskilling in his honor.
