20,000 dollars

Wally Amos has a net worth of $20,000 and is an American television personality, entrepreneur, and author. He created the Famous Amos chocolate chip cookie company. He has also written ten books.

Early Years

On July 1, 1936, Wally Amos was born in Tallahassee, Florida. He was raised there until he was 12 years old, when he moved to New York City with his aunt Della Bryan following his parents’ divorce. Wally began cooking at a young age, and his Aunt Della taught him how to make chocolate chip cookies. After dropping out of high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Amos served at the Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 1954 to 1957, earning his GED along the way before being honourably discharged from the military.

After graduating from college, Amos returned to New York City and, after starting out in the mailroom, rose through the ranks of the William Morris Agency to become the first African American talent agent, representing Diana Ross & The Supremes, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, and Simon & Garfunkel. Amos started attracting new talent and clients by sending them homemade chocolate cookies and an invitation to meet with him.

In 1975, Amos opened a store in Los Angeles, California, to sell his cookies. Marvin Gaye and Helen Reddy gave him a $25,000 loan to start his business. In March of 1975, the first Famous Amos cookie store opened in Los Angeles. In just five years, the cookie shop, along with Amos, gained near-instant notoriety and grew rapidly in popularity. In 1981, Amos was so well-known that he appeared in a “Taxi” episode called “Latka’s Cookies.” as himself.

Famous Amos had amassed a $12 million profit by 1982. This is the equivalent of $30 million today.

Amos was being hired all over the country to give motivational speeches at the time, in addition to writing books. Unfortunately, this would be the company’s pinnacle of success. Sales began to decline after a few years, and the company began to lose money. Wally sold stakes in the company at various times in an attempt to keep it afloat. After being forced to sell the Famous Amos Company, Amos formed The Uncle Noname’s Cookie Company with Lou Avigonne in 1994, which later became Uncle Wally’s Muffin Company in 1999. The fat-free muffins are available in over 3,500 stores across the country.

In 2014, Amos resurrected his cookie company as The Cookie Kahuna, a sadly short-lived company based in Hawaii, where he was living at the time. The cookies are available in two flavours: plain chocolate chip and chocolate chip with pecans and macadamia nuts. In 2019, NBC affiliate KSNV-TV in Las Vegas dubbed Amos “The King of Cookies.” “The Great Cookie Comeback: reBaking Wally Amos.” a documentary by Jeff MacIntyre about Amos’ life, was released in 2020.

Other Projects

John Rosica, Amos’ longtime friend and publicist, introduced Wally to Literacy Volunteers of America. Amos has since become an advocate for adult literacy, assisting thousands of adults in learning to read through volunteer work. In 1987, he began hosting a Kentucky Education Television programme called “Learn to Read,” which aimed to teach other adults how to read.

Private Life

Since 1979, he has been married to Christine Amos-Harris. She assisted him in the early design of Famous Amos’ packaging. Michael, Gregory, Sarah, and Shawn Amos, the latter of whom is a talented blues musician, are the couple’s four children. From 1977 to 2018, the family lived in Hawaii. In 2018, Wally and Christine moved to Columbia, South Carolina.

Wally Amos Broke

Wally started a GoFundMe campaign in March 2017 to raise money to help him get back on track financially. Wally’s most recent business venture, The Cookie Kahuna, left him broke, according to the video on the page. He explains that he only needs money to pay his rent and eat. The goal of the GoFundMe is to raise $50,000.
