Rita Moreno is a Puerto Rican-born American actress, dancer, and singer who has made a significant impact to the entertainment world.


Rita Moreno was born on December 11, 1931, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, to parents Rosa Mara Marcano (a seamstress) and Francisco José “Paco” Alvero (a farmer).


In 1936, Rita Moreno and her mother relocated to New York City. Francisco, her younger brother, is her only sibling. She spent her adolescence in the Long Island towns of Valley Stream, which are part of the municipality of Hempstead, which borders New York City.





Rita Moreno is one of the few entertainers who have received all four major yearly American entertainment awards: an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. In 2015, she was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honor, as well as a Kennedy Center Honor for her commitment to American culture via the arts.


Rita Moreno is one of 24 performers who have won the Triple Crown of Acting, which consists of individual competitive Academy, Emmy, and Tony awards for acting. In 2019, she received the Peabody Career Achievement Award in 2010.
