The battle on American Idol 2022 has just become a lot tougher.
This is owing to the surprising withdrawal of leader Kenedi Anderson from the tournament.
Anderson had been a favorite to win since she auditioned with a passionate performance of Lady Gaga’s “Applause” that prompted the judges to grant her one of three platinum tickets, advancing her not only to Hollywood Week, but also beyond the first round of cuts.
Kenedi Anderson’s shocking departure from American Idol 2022 was revealed by the show’s longtime host Ryan Seacrest, who announced the news in a clip inserted into Monday’s (April 11, 2022) episode after the high schooler’s performance of Christina Perri’s “Human,” which drew standing ovations from judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.
Why did Kenedi leave the American Idol competition?
Kenedi Anderson resigned from the competition due to personal issues, according to Ryan Seacrest.
“You may have noticed that there was no voting information throughout Kenedi’s performance just now,” Ryan Seacrest stated from a table (Monday, April 11, 2022).
“Kenedi has opted to resign from our show for personal reasons since we filmed these shows in Hawaii earlier.”
Ryan Seacrest continued, saying:
“We wish her well, and it goes without saying that we have amazing talent on this historic season, with more memorable ‘Idol’ performances coming up for you right now.”
Kenedi responded to Ryan Seacrest’s statement on Instagram with the following:
“I’m unable to continue on American Idol for personal reasons.” This is one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make, but I know it’s important.”
“I’m so thankful to American Idol, the judges, the producers, the incredible candidates, and all of the fans who have supported me.”
“Thank you for providing me such an incredible chance to express my voice, achieve my dreams, and feel so much joy and happiness doing what I love while meeting lifetime friends.”
